Prof. Iris Levin

Bio sketch:
Professor (emeritus) at Tel Aviv University's School of Education. She served as head of the committee to promoting literacy skills in preschool and kindergarten and was a member of the Committee for the Advancement of Literacy. She specializes in the development of literacy and language in early childhood and the socio-cultural influences which affect it. Her research focuses on the properties of (Hebrew and Arabic) mother tongue and writing that affect literacy acquisition; and, the impact of literacy at home and the quality of parent-child interactions on child development. She conducts intervention studies in preschools and among families in the Jewish and Arab sectors to improve educators’ skills in fostering literacy.Prof. Levin earned her Ph.D. in psychology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1974.
