Prof. Shifra Sagy
Member, consesus commitiee: Values Education

Bio sketch:
Professor emerita of psychology at the Department of Education, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. She is member of the Israeli Council for Higher Education, where, among other activities, she heads the committee for advancement of the Bedouin community's accessibility to the Israeli academia and the committee for advancement of students of Ethiopian origin.
At the University, she is involved in mentoring Ph.D and post doctoral research students and heads the Martin Springer Center for Conflict Studies.
Previously, at Ben-Gurion University, she served as head of the Educational Psychology Program and chaired the Department of Education. In that capacity, she developed and headed unique programs for educational psychology studies in communities with limited access to academia (ultra-orthodox Jews, Bedouins, Israeli-Arabs). In 2007, she established an inter-disciplinary M.A. program for managing and resolving conflicts, which she adapted to diverse populations.
Her research focuses on salutogenesis and sources of resilience for children, adolescents and communities under stress. Likewise, her studies address education for peace, development of tolerance, and acknowledgment of the “other” in conflict areas.
